Grandpa Fenn’s story
The Ramp Race
Two balls sat at the top of the ramp. One was a marble. The other was a ping-pong ball.
“Which one wins?” asked Omar.
“Guess first,” said Ms. Lee.
Omar guessed the ping-pong ball. It was so light.
Ms. Lee let go. The marble zipped down and was waiting at the bottom while the ping-pong ball was still rolling.
“Why?” Omar asked.
“The marble is solid all the way through. The ping-pong ball is hollow, and that changes how it rolls. Now try it again. This time, make the ramp steeper.”
Omar was already stacking more books.
