Make the Moon change shape
Slide the Moon around the Earth. Watch the picture on the right. That is what you would see from your backyard.
Half of the Moon is always lit by the Sun. As the Moon travels around Earth, we see more or less of that lit half. The Moon takes about a month to go all the way around.

Grandpa Fenn’s story
The Moon Is Following Us
Every night, Eli looked out the car window. The Moon was still there.
It followed the car down the road. It followed it past the gas station. It followed it all the way home.
“Dad, why does the Moon follow us?”
“Maybe it does not,” Dad said. “Maybe it is just too far away to leave.”
Eli thought about that. A tree went by fast. A fence went by faster. The Moon did not move at all.
The Moon is about 240,000 miles away. A car cannot get far enough to change how it looks. So it just hangs there, and it feels like it is walking beside you.
