Science FennsK to 5
For teachersWho it helps, a 10-minute routine, and what to watch for.

Who it helps

Any beginning reader. That includes kindergarten and first grade, students new to English, and older students who still stumble on common words. No grade is required. Pick the shelf where the words feel just a little hard.

A 10-minute routine

Spend two minutes on Say it with a shelf the student knows. Spend five on Find it. Spend three on Spell it with the words that came back. Stop on a win. Short and often beats long and rare.

What to watch for

Watch for guessing by first letter, long pauses on a familiar word, and letters that flip, like b and d. Missed words return in the same round, so a word that keeps coming back is worth a quiet look. Nothing is saved. Jot your own notes.
